Ministry, COSTAATT meet over nurses' stipends

The College of Science, Technology and the Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) and the Education Ministry have agreed to review the College’s financial allocations to ensure continued general operations, following its inability to continue payments of stipends to nursing students.

The decision was taken following a meeting on Thursday between members of the Ministry’s Executive Team and the President and Members of COSTAATT’s Board to discuss issues surrounding the financial situation impacting the College that led to the non-payment of stipends to nurses.

During the meeting, COSTAATT sought to clarify the issue of instructions being given through the Ministry to cease payment of stipends to the nursing students.

Discussions also focused on the Ministry’s directive to Agencies, Authorities and State Enterprises to reprioritise all available financial resources to meet critical recurrent and capital expenditure.

Further, both COSTAATT and the Ministry acknowledged the need to work in tandem to realise the goals and objectives of the education system.
