Ministry warns of illegal pleas for donations for local flood relief

The Ministry of Health is warning citizens of persons soliciting donations on behalf of the Ministries of Health and Rural Development and Local Government, to support local flood victims.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry said it received reports of person(s) impersonating Government officials to receive the items. The individuals are presenting a document which appears to be legitimate as it is laminated and bears the stamps of the Ministry of Health and a Regional Corporation.

Citizens are advised that no entity has been authorized to embark on such a donation drive and as such persons should not make any contribution in this instance.

Legitimate requests for such donations must be approved by the Commissioner of Police and will be indicated as such with a stamp from the Office of the Commissioner of Police.

Members of the public with information about the person(s) conducting this activity are asked to contact the Arouca Police Station at 640-6138/7647 or the nearest police station.
