A minor was one of two suspects who appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday, jointly charged with the November 2 murder of national awardee, Haseena Ali.

Videsh Sooklal, 28, a mason, of Curepe, and the teenager, appeared before Magistrate Adrian Dharmanie, in the Chaguanas 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Monday to answer to the charge.

Ali’s partially burnt body was found on the ground floor of her South Gate Road, Freeport home, following a fire which occurred on the premises on November 2, 2018.

An autopsy revealed the 74-year-old woman died as a result of several stab wounds to her head and back.

Investigations supervised by W/ASP (Ag.) Lucia Winchester, Insp. Darryl Coorie and Legal Officer PC Kern Lewis, all of Homicide Bureau of Investigations, (HBI) Region 3, led to the arrests of the minor on November 8 and Sooklal, on November 13 in the Central Division.

Charges were laid by WPC Afisha Valdez, also of HBI, Region 3, on Sunday following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.

The matter was adjourned to Wednesday.
