Minor oil spill reported off south west peninsula

Cleanup efforts are currently underway following an oil sighting offshore near the Soldado Main Field, off Trinidad’s south west peninsula.

A statement from Heritage Petroleum Company confirmed that the spill was spotted around 11.25 am on Thursday between RP1 and Platform 9, Soldado Main Field.

The volume of spilled oil is estimated to be less than five barrels with no material impact on the environment.

The company said its Oil Spill Contingency Plan was immediately activated and the relevant personnel were dispatched to the scene.

The spill has been isolated and Heritage HSE personnel have shut in SWS and surrounding facilities.

Heritage said there have been no further oil sightings or evidence of oil leakage and monitoring is on-going.

All regulatory agencies, including the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs; the Environmental Management Authority (EMA); and the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) have been notified.
