Minors still in custody following police killing

The two minors – aged 14 and 17 – who were with 19-year-old McKesi Watch when he was shot dead by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force yesterday remain in custody.

The minors, along with a 27-year-old man, were said to be with Watch when he was shot dead by police yesterday afternoon. They are aiding with inquiries.

McKesi, of St John Street, Laventille, was shot dead around 1.20pm on Thursday, at the Frank Jeeta Inspection Station along the Eastern Main Road, San Juan.

According to police reports, Task Force officers were responding to a report that a grey Chevrolet Cruze which was reported stolen in the Northern Division, had been seen in San Juan.

When officers arrived on location they confronted Watch, who police said was armed with a weapon.

Watch was shot, and taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The scene was processed by members of the North Eastern Division’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit.

Also on the scene was ACP McDonald Jacob, Snr Supt Balram, ASP Ramesar, ASP Jaikaran, Inspector Joseph, Sgt Davidson and others.

The vehicle was wrecked and taken to the Arouca police station where it is expected to be examined by crime scene investigators for fingerprints and other evidential materials.

McKesi was the third police killing for 2019.
