Mobile phone sale turns into robbery

Police are once again reminding citizens not to make themselves soft targets, especially when it relates to purchasing or selling second-hand items to persons they met on social media.

The latest reminder comes after a 21-year-old Diego Martin woman and her 23-year-old friend were robbed at gunpoint.

The 21-year-old woman had posted on social media sites the sale for two phones – an iPhone X valued at $5,000 as well as an iPhone 8 plus valued at $4,000 – and had been contacted by a man to purchase.

An agreement was made to meet on Richards Street, Paradise Gardens, to sell the man the phones.

The 21-year-old took a male friend with her to sell the items, however, and they went to the location at 10:00 pm on Sunday.

However, while conducting sales, another man approached the two victims armed with a firearm.

He announced a hold-up and took the victims' phones as well as the keys to a Mazda 3 motor vehicle.

The gunmen then escaped.

No one was physically hurt in this incident.

PC Ali is continuing inquiries.

More on this as it becomes available.
