Mobile phone thief gets 20 days hard labour
A 27-year-old man who stole a phone at the Port of Spain Market in December has been sentenced to 20 days of hard labour.
The accused, Amir Ghanny, of Freddy Street, Aranguez, was arrested on Friday by Cpl Dwayne John and Cpl McShine, of the Port of Spain City Police.
It was alleged that the victim put her phone on a counter at the Port of Spain Market in December while shopping. When she went to retrieve the phone, it was missing.
She made a report to police.
However, upon purchasing a new phone and syncing the information, the woman saw pictures with persons who she did not know in her online account. She reported this to the police who were then able to trace the phone, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
He was charged and brought before a Port of Spain Magistrate, where he plead guilty and was sentenced on Monday.
More on this as it becomes available.
