Morvant man, 21, charged with murder of McDonald's manager
A Morvant man, charged with the murder of McDonald’s restaurant manager, Ashmeed Mohammed, is scheduled to appear before the Port of Spain 8th Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Israel Jabarry Durant aka ‘Barry’ and ‘WASA’, a 21-year-old WASA attendant of Chaconia Avenue, Coconut Drive, Morvant, was charged following advice received from Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Tricia Hudlin-Cooper, on Tuesday 12 June.
Mohammed, 38, of Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande, was on duty at McDonald’s Restaurant, Cipriani Boulevard, Newtown, Port of Spain, on Sunday 20 May, when he was accosted by three armed men while closing the branch. The victim was then taken back into the establishment where he was beaten and eventually shot dead. The suspects then made their escape in an awaiting white Nissan Tiida motor vehicle.
Durant was arrested at his workplace, WASA, St. Helena, on Thursday 7 June by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region 1, and faces additional charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and robbery with aggravation.
Investigations were supervised by ASP (Ag.) Suzette Martin, of HBI Region 1, while Cpl. Stanley Romeo, also of HBI Region 1, laid the charges.
