Morvant man in court for shooting incident
A Morvant man has appeared before an Arima Magistrate after he allegedly shot a 25-year-old in Carapo earlier this week.
The accused is Sayyed Ali, 29, of Chrysanthemum Avenue, Coconut Drive, Morvant.
Ali faced five charges stemming from the incident, including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life, and possession of ammunition with the intent to endanger life.
After submissions in the court, bail was granted at $275,000 on the conditions that he stay away from the victim, and that he stays out of the Carapo community.
The matter was then adjourned to February 6.
On Sunday afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot in Carapo.
According to police reports, at about 4pm residents of Unity Lane heard several loud explosions.
Upon investigating, they observed the 25-year-old man on the ground bleeding from injuries about his body.
The 29-year-old man was observed fleeing the scene.
The police and paramedics were notified, and the injured man was rushed for medical treatment at the Arima Distirct Health Facility.
He was treated and is said to be in a stable condition.
Acting on intelligence received, officers later made their way to a home in the community where they detained the suspect.
