Mother killed, daughter critical after Manzanilla bar shooting
A 55-year-old man has allegedly turned himself in, in connection with a shooting which left a 44-year-old woman dead and her daughter seriously injured in Manzanilla.
The man is now in police custody after he allegedly opened fire on 44-year-old Savitri Narine and her daughter Nirmalaa Narine in a bar in Manzanilla on Saturday evening, killing Narine and injuring her daughter and one other.
18-year-old Nirrmalaa was also seriously injured in the incident, along with her brother, Bobby Narine, who only received minor wounds to the head.
According to reports, at about 10:00 pm on Saturday, the trio was liming in a bar along Plum Mitan Road, Manzanilla, with the 55-year-old suspect, when he left the establishment and walked towards his car.
It was said that moments later, he returned, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun.
The suspect, police were told, began to shoot indiscriminately, hitting his three relatives.
He then returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.
The police and emergency services were notified and officers from the Eastern Division responded.
The wounded persons were rushed to the Sangre Grande Hospital.
Unfortunately, Savitri died as a result of her wounds.
Nirrmalaa underwent emergency surgery, and during the course of the night was stabilized. She is now in a stable but serious condition.
Police said around 4:30 pm on Sunday, the suspect surrendered to investigators in the company of his brother, who is a retired special reserve police officer.
A firearm, sources said, was also received and is expected to be sent for ballistic testing.
