MP calls on acting Top Cop to investigate fatal accident
Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh is calling on acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams to launch an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of one of his constituents Rishi "Skills" Sankar of 4th Street, Dow Village, California.
Sankar was killed in a vehicular accident which allegedly involved a senior police officer in Union, Orange Valley, last Sunday.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Indarsingh said he was calling on head of the Police Complaints Authority, David West, to also commence his own probe into the professional conduct of the investigating officers to ensure that Sankar’s family gets closure with all the details surrounding the vehicular accident, even if such details point to the victim's negligence.
Indarsingh is also asking Williams to ensure that the family of the deceased is provided with an interim report soon, with a summary of all the relevant information regarding the collision as well as the opinions of the investigating officers.
The MP is making this call against what he considers a "lack of transparency" and "openness" in the actions of the police into the man's death.
He made the comment as he said he visited the family's home and was informed that they are yet to be advised of the details surrounding the accident in the three days that have passed.
