Narrow escape for 18-year-old after maxi-taxi attack

An 18-year-old woman is now safe after a harrowing attack by a maxi-taxi passenger on Friday afternoon.

According to updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a Chaguanas man is in police custody after the 18-year-old was allegedly threatened with a knife and had her pants forcibly unzipped while on the maxi.

Police said the woman boarded the maxi around 1:30 pm near St John's Road, St Augustine when a man came and sat opposite her.

The man then allegedly pulled out a knife and ordered her to come sit next to him.

He then began searching the victim’s front pockets and unzipped her pants before ordering her to stop the maxi at Cane Farm Road, Arouca.

Police said the woman followed his orders, however once she got off of the maxi she fought against her attacker and was able to escape.

She immediately reported the incident to nearby police officers who gave chase and apprehended the suspect.

Police conveyed him to the Arouca Police Station.

He is facing charges of kidnapping and assault with intent to rob.
