Nat. Sec.: No additional powers for private security

After questions were raised regarding the procurement of private security firms to assist the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and Defence Force, the Ministry of National Security is assuring that these security officers will have no further powers.

In a follow up to their original media release, the Ministry said, “The Ministry of National Security wishes to advise that the patrols being provided by the private security firms, have no additional powers outside of their normal powers as private security officers, performing private neighbourhood patrols.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry announced that four security firms were hired to provide neighbourhood patrols between April 6 and May 5.

The firms listed were Allied Security Limited, Amalgamated Security Services Limited, Innovative Security Technologies Limited and Protective Agencies Limited.
