NCC creates brass competition for Carnival Monday night

Ten brass bands will compete for a grand prize on Carnival Monday night in an event designed to bring brass back into the festival.

Chairman of the National Carnival Commission Winston 'Gypsy' Peters told the media on Wednesday that the event will be called Brass Bacchanal.

"Trinidad and Tobago has a lot of people who play brass instruments and over the years we have been losing these artistes. We want a generation of young people to start getting involved in playing the brass instruments, get involved in bringing it back public," he said.

Peters said Brass Bacchanal will also breathe life into the Savannah, dubbed Carnival City, where nothing happens on Carnival Monday night.

"People could come and fete till they drop," he said.

The event will be a competitive one where the band with the best brass instrumentation will win a cash award.

Peters said the event is seeking to attract everyone in T&T including visitors.
