Martiniquans can now come to Saint Lucia and shop for a day thanks to a new ferry service which began operations on Thursday.

Patrice Amanou, who is the captain and owner along with Gilles Marchand, on Thursday announced the new ferry service at a luncheon held at the Reduit premises of the French Ambassador to which all 64 passengers they ferried to Saint Lucia that day were invited.

The duo had been engaged in transporting less than a dozen Martiniquans to Saint Lucia on small vessels from far back as 2002 operating individually as businessmen.

They joined forces in 2014 and started transporting 12 and more Martiniquans. However, this year they decided to go big investing in two larger vessels that hold 84 and 95 passengers respectively.

This new service is not open to Saint Lucians wanting to travel to Martinique.  Presently, it’s available only for Martiniquans coming to Saint Lucia for a day. Both Amanou and Marchand said this mode of service will not continue for long because the plan is to have the ferry going both ways with passengers from both countries.

The ferry service will be in operation five days per week leaving Martinique at 7:30 am to arrive back at port at 4 pm.
