Ozone Wireless Barbados Inc. will soon be providing another cellular option for Barbadians.

This was revealed during a press briefing this morning at their Manor Lodge headquarters in Green Hill, St Michael.

Brand and Communications Manager with the company, Dianne Squires, explained that Ozone obtained its Mobile Operator License in 2014 and will be available to the Barbadian public from July 17, 2017.

Squires noted that there are plans to expand the company throughout the Caribbean:

"We are a mobile operator located here in Barbados - this is our headquarters... Our initial deployment is here in Barbados - this is the hub...we do Barbados right and then the plan is to expand across the region in certain select markets. So there is definitely a plan for expansion and we are already in the process of negotiating which territories we would like to secure licenses in."

She further explained that the company is catering to consumers who are on the go and need a constant supply of data - a focus which has influenced the products they will be offering:

"We are the only and the first 4G LTE only network. So what that means is where we don't have 3G or we don't have 2G, what's called a legacy network.

"So we start at what is really 21st Century technology and that's how really we are differentiated on the technology side from the incumbents. So that means 4G LTE really is built for data and so data is going to be the hallmark and the strongpoint of Ozone."

Stressing that the small team of 50 employees is made of 96 per cent Barbadians, she added that the company will be focused on high-quality customer service and experience. They are therefore promising coverage across the entire island, fast data speeds and convenient customer interaction such as a fully online service.

Squires also explained that Ozone has used a three-phase approach to launching in Barbados, having carried out significant work in phase one, where more than 50 persons helped to test the network's functions. They have now moved into phase two where in addition to further tests and the pre-registration of clients, they are engaging in public awareness. They will move into the final stage in July when Ozone Wireless Barbados Inc. officially launches.
