The Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) is now Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT).

The long-awaited rebranding of the State media company took place Tuesday afternoon, which saw the unveiling of the new logo.

Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said with the seriousness of the role that media plays in citizens’ everyday lives, it is important to ensure that TTT leads the charge for providing factual information and combat fake news.

Noting that TTT will take on a production role, the Prime Minister said with all the negativity seen in the news it is important to produce positive content, "programmes that elevate us, entertain us, drive us to a higher quality of life."

Rowley, who previously held the view that the State has no business in media and broadcasting, said his view has changed over time.

"Let TTT be a gold standard in quality broadcasting. We are not competing with other stations. We are into production and what we produce should find its way into those other channels.

The State broadcaster has a role of building a reputation as a bastion for correct information."

"It is more important for TTT to be a Programme Producer. It is against that background that the Ministry of Finance will support this. This will be our production house."

Communications Minister Stuart Young, who was also at the launch, said the new TTT will provide a platform for young entrepreneurs, and showcase talk shows for young people.

He noted that social media platforms are the go-to for young people for accurate news, so TTT will tap into that resource.

Young added that TTT is prepared to partner with those who want a constructive outlet to broadcast their talents.

The rebranded TTT is on-air tonight.
