NIB launches Tobago office
The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) has opened a new office in Scarborough, Tobago.
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Tobago East MP, Ayanna Webster-Roy, said at the official opening of the new location that social protection is of critical importance.
“Social protection plays a critical role in reducing and preventing poverty and leveling out inequalities in our society. Social protection is also an integral part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
“Sustainable Development Goal one calls on all countries to provide social security to all as a means to end poverty in all its forms everywhere by 2030. This is also in alignment with the Government’s 2030 Vision which speaks to putting people first,” she said.
The Tobago Service Centre will provide twenty-three benefits in seven categories intended to lessen the economic difficulties associated with old age, disability, sickness, incapacity and death by providing income replacement to beneficiaries for either temporary or permanent loss of earnings throughout their life course.
Minister Webster-Roy also encouraged Tobagonians to be seekers and consumers of innovation and information that can make their lives more comfortable.
“As much as the NIBTT serves to provide social protection to the people of Trinidad and Tobago sometimes these services go unrecognized by some persons in our communities. Awareness building is critical both at the individual and organizational level. We the people have a responsibility to be proactive and seek information about the things we invest in and the potential benefits.” She urged.
The new Tobago Service Centre is located at Fircon Building, No.9 Bacolet Street, Scarborough.
