Nine held, 70 tickets issued in Penal
Anti-crime exercises in Penal on Wednesday resulted in the arrests of nine persons, and over 70 persons being issued fixed penalty tickets for breaches of road laws and regulations.
The exercises were conducted under the supervision of Snr Sup Neville Adams.
According to reports, five persons were arrested on outstanding warrants, two persons were arrested for using obscene language, while one person was arrested for being in breach of a protection order.
Forty speeding tickets were issued to motorists who were driving above the legal limits along the roadways, while 32 persons were issued tickets for being in breach of several road regulations including, defective tyres, defective vehicles, driving without insurance or permits, and driving without a child seat.
A total of 141 persons were searched during the exercises.
These initiatives are aimed at reducing crime in the district and were part of several similar exercises expected to take place over the coming few days in the jurisdiction.
Earlier this week, a similar initiative led to the arrests of four persons for possession of cocaine.
These individuals are currently before the courts.
