Nine Venezuelans held on suspicions of illegal entry and prostitution

Nine Venezuelan nationals are expected to appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday after they were held on allegations of being in the country illegally.

The nine detainees, which included six men and three women, all between the ages of 18 and 40, were arrested during a police exercise on Friday night in the Central Division.

A team of officers, under the supervision of Snr Sup Balram and ASP Smith, received information which led them to a popular bar in the division, where the suspects were questioned.

The women, police said, were questioned in relation to allegations of prostitution.

Officials from the Immigration Office were contacted and the nine detained persons were handed over to their custody. They are expected to be questioned this weekend, following which they will be charged and brought before the courts.
