No arrests yet in priest's robbery

Investigations into the robbery of Father (Fr) Jose Marie Thekkekutte in Tortuga have yet to result in any arrests.

And while LoopTT was told Thursday morning that investigators were following certain leads with the intent to make arrests in the immediate future, a request for aid from the public was made.

Police asked that anyone with information which could lead to arrests to contact the Gran Couva Police Station, or they can give the information anonymously through 555 or 800-TIPS.

On Sunday night, Fr Thekkekutte was asleep at the Our of Lady of Montserrat presbytery along the Mayo Road, Tortuga, when he was woken up by two masked men.

The men, armed with cutlasses, demanded the priest hand over cash and valuables from the church’s harvest which was held earlier that day.

The men threatened the life of the priest, and even warned him that they would chop off his limbs if he did  not cooperate.

They were joined by a third assailant.

The assailants eventually escaped with a quantity of valuable items, including cash, electronics, drinks, and the Church’s Hyundai Tucson SUV.

Thankfully, Fr Thekkekutte was not seriously harmed in the incident.
