No charges for suspect after two-year-old shot

Charges are yet to be laid against a 66-year-old Moruga man who has been held in connection with the shooting of a two-year-old girl.

The suspect was detained on Monday in Penal by officers of the Southern Division Task Force.

The two-year-old girl, Candy Loubon, is said to still be warded at the San Fernando General Hospital with the pellets from a 12- gauge cartridge that struck her in the neck and leg.

According to initial reports, at about 7:00 am on Saturday, the toddler was at her home along Penal Rock Road, in Moruga.

Her older cousin, Wendell Mike, 32, had a confrontation with a 68-year-old male relative.

During the confrontation, the older man picked up a shotgun and shot at the 32-year-old man.

The older relative then fled the scene.

Mike was shot in the head, back and neck.

The toddler, who was in the yard at the time, was struck in the neck.

The police and emergency health services were notified and the two wounded relatives were rushed to hospital where they were treated.

Both are said to be in a serious condition.

Cpl Ramsingh is continuing inquiries.
