No work on Thursday in Dominica as Kirk approaches

Dominicans are bracing for the effects of Tropical Storm Kirk.

The storm is forecast to move across the Lesser Antilles on Thursday.

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in a Facebook post today revealed there will be no work, as Tropical Storm Kirk approaches the island.

“The general public is hereby advised that today, Thursday, September 27th will not be a working day, in light of Tropical Storm Kirk.”

A Tropical storm warning remains in effect for Dominica.

Winds are expected to begin affecting the island by Thursday afternoon.

As of 5 a.m. today, Tropical Storm Kirk was located near 13.5N 58.3W or about 135km East-Northeast of Barbados and moving towards the West-Northwest at 26 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 85km/hr.
