Notice: Maqueripe Beach to close for demolition works

The Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) said Maqueripe Beach Facility will be closed in order to carry out scheduled demolition works.

In a release, the CDA said the beach will be closed from midnight, Tuesday, May 23, to Thursday, May 25, in order to facilitate the demolition of the dilapidated three tier concrete platforms located north of Maqueripe Bay.

"Following a series of consultations with stakeholders, it was determined that the demolition of the platforms is necessary as the platforms have become structurally unstable and now present a serious safety hazard of collapsing," the CDA said.

The Authority added that Maqueripe Main Road, from the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Reserves at the corner of Edith Falls Road and Maqueripe Main Road, will also be closed during that time.

The public is also asked to keep away from all footpaths and trails leading to the Maqueripe Bay area.

The CDA said it has 'executed its due diligence' and has received all necessary regulatory approvals and clearances for the demolition, including a Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) from the Environmental Management Authority (EMA).

The CDA said it apologises for any inconvenience caused as it seeks to ensure the safety of all within the Chaguaramas peninsula.
