About World Food Day

'Zero Hunger' is at the central focus of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations with a goal to end world hunger by 2030. Over 820 million people worldwide are suffering from chronic undernourishment, according to the latest FAO "2018 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World" report.

Conflict, extreme weather events linked to climate change, economic slowdown and rapidly increasing overweight and obesity levels are reversing progress made in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. While millions go hungry, 672 million people suffer from obesity, and a further 1.3 billion are overweight.

Wasting less, eating better and adopting a sustainable lifestyle are key to building a world free of hunger. Zero Hunger moves beyond conflict-resolution, economic growth, and taking the long-term approach building peaceful, inclusive societies.
