NWRHA investigating negligence claims at St Ann's hospital
The NWRHA said it is investigating claims of inefficiency and negligence involving a patient at the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital.
In a statement issued Friday, the NWRHA said it noted a video clip aired on CCN TV6 on May 8, in which Allison Bruce, a psychiatric nurse based in the UK, was allegedly shut out by a nurse who refused to give her information regarding her brother, who is schizophrenic.
Bruce said her brother suffered a relapse and was due to be assessed, which took almost five hours because health officials who were due to conduct the assessment allegedly didn’t report for duty on time.
She said she was faced with dismissive doctors and nurses who refused to give her information about her brother.
She said officials at the facility seemed to be incompetent.
The NWRHA said however that preliminary reports showed that her brother was assessed, warded and treated on May 6 at the hospital.
The agency added that it is committed to meeting with her to address her concerns.
The NWRHA said it reiterates its commitment to the provision of quality care to all patients and to ensuring the safety of patients and staff members alike.
