Officer questioned after neighbour caught with firearm
A police officer is being questioned after his neighbour claimed that he had been loaned a firearm by the officer.
The 32-year-old man was held with a firearm while parked at the carpark of the Salibya beach, Matura.
The man, who was at the time in the company of a 24-year-old woman, was searched and a Sig Sauer Pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition was allegedly found and seized on his person.
The incident took place at about 9am on Wednesday, and the two were held by officers Fuentes and Hosein.
However, the 32-year-old told police that he had been given the gun by his neighbour - a police officer attached to the North Eastern Division.
As a result, the officer was questioned, and is currently in custody aiding with inquiries.
Investigators sought legal advice first before proceeding with charges, which they expected to be completed by Sunday.
More on this as it becomes available.
