One dead, one injured following chopping incident in Toco

A 29-year-old man is dead following a chopping incident in Toco on Wednesday night.

He has been identified as Ronnie Baptiste of San Souci, Toco.

Baptiste, along with a 22-year-old Sangre Grande man got into an altercation with a 36-year-old man known to them around 11:30 pm.

During the altercation, the two younger men were chopped by the suspect, who was armed with a cutlass.

They were rushed for medical treatment, however, Baptiste succumbed to his injuries.

The 36-year-old suspect told police he was at home, when he observed two men throwing bottles at his house.

He reportedly went outside to confront them.

The suspect claimed he was attacked by the two men with broken glass bottles and told police he used the cutlass to defend himself.

The man is currently aiding police with inquiries.
