One dead, police officer injured following altercation

A police sergeant is said to be nursing injuries at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex following a shooting incident on Tuesday night in Arouca.

According to initial reports, Sgt Greene was at a function in Bon Air (East) Arouca, when a man, Kedon Jones, allegedly began acting in an aggressive manner.

Reports indicate that Jones was confronted, and asked to leave, which he did, before returning with a firearm.

Another confrontation followed and Sgt Greene had cause to draw and discharge his licensed firearm.

The sergeant received injuries to one of his legs, while Jones was shot about the body.

Jones was rushed to the Arima District Hospital; however, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An autopsy is expected to take place today at the Forensic Science Center in St James.
