One held after police-involved shooting

One man was arrested following a police-involved shooting which occurred in Princes Town, last night. 

Officers of the Southern Division were on mobile patrol along Mandingo Road, Princes Town, around 8.30pm on Tuesday, when they received information about men armed with guns travelling in a convoy of three vehicles. 

The officers subsequently spotted one of the vehicles, a white Mitsubishi panel van, and attempted to intercept it, when they were shot at by its occupants. In accordance with the Use of Force policy, officers returned fire in an attempt to stop the vehicle. 

The vehicle came to a halt and two male suspects ran off into some nearby bushes. 

Assistance was sought from officers of the Ste. Madeleine Police Station, the Southern Division Task Force, the Princes Town Police Station and Criminal Investigations Department, the Barrackpore Police Station and the Emergency Response Patrol Unit, to find and apprehend the suspects. 

Following an extensive search of the area, a 28-year-old man of Orangefield Road, Carapichaima, was held in connection with the incident. 

Investigations are ongoing.
