One held following casino robbery in Debe
One man was held by officers of the Southern Division, in collaboration with various other Branches and Units of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, following a report of a robbery at a casino in the Debe district today.
Reports say workers and patrons were at the establishment when three men, one armed with a gun, entered and announced a hold up around 11:05 am, on Saturday 8 June, 2019.
The men proceeded to relieve the patrons and the workers of quantities of cash and other valuables before taking them to the washroom area of the building. The owner of the establishment was alerted of the incident and immediately contacted the police, which resulted in officers of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, Guard and Emergency Branch, Southern Division Task Force, Emergency Response Patrol, Highway Patrol South and the Barrackpore and Ste. Madeleine Police Stations responding.
The building was surrounded and the assistance of the Multi-Operational Policing Section was requested to provide a negotiator, in the event of a hostage situation unfolding. However, some of the patrons and workers subsequently exited the building and indicated that the assailants had already left.
The officers then proceeded cautiously into the building and brought the patrons who were still inside, out safely.
Officers subsequently conducted a thorough search of the area for the suspects which resulted in one of the men; a 23-year-old of Chaguanas, being apprehended a short distance away at Mohess Road, Debe.
The suspect had a quantity of cash and other valuables which were stolen during the robbery in his possession at the time of his arrest.
