One killed in shootout with police
One man is dead following a shooting incident involving police in Tacarigua on Saturday.
The identity of the deceased, police said, was yet to be confirmed up to late Sunday.
According to police reports, around 1.30 pm officers of the Northern Division attempted to intercept a vehicle which was proceeding along Huggins Street, Tacarigua, when suspects in the vehicle opened fire on the lawmen.
The officers returned fire.
There was a short chase, which ended when the suspects’ vehicle crashed near the corner of Peter Street.
Three men exited the car, one of whom was reportedly armed with a firearm.
The officers said the suspect shot at the lawmen again and police returned fire, hitting him five times about the body.
The other two suspects fled the scene.
The victim was rushed to the Arima District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other two suspects were eventually cornered at a house at St Michael Road, Tacarigua.
They are expected to be questioned, following which they will be charged and brought before the courts.
