Opposition to consider Gov'ts presidential nominee
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has described the meeting with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and his team to discuss the nomination of an individual for President of Trinidad and Tobago as “cordial and productive.”
A statement from the Opposition noted that during the meeting, Dr Rowley presented the Government’s nominee, Madame Justice Paula-Mae Weekes and the Opposition Leader indicated that due consideration would be given by the Opposition Members of Parliament.
Noting that the Opposition is mindful of the deadline of Monday 8th January for the submission of nominations, Persad-Bissessar said that the Opposition’s decision would be communicated to the Office of the Prime Minister at the earliest opportunity.
According to the release, Persad-Bissessar indicated to the Prime Minister that the Opposition is keen on working with the Government to move the process forward in the interests of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
