Barbadians have pledged over $400,000 to aid in the relief and rebuilding efforts in The Bahamas following the passage of Hurricane Dorian.
On Sunday, at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), pledges poured in during the seven and a half hour 'Rise Again Bahamas' mediathon. When the dust settled the pledge amount totaled $440,956.41.
The goal for the mediathon was initially set at $500,000 and this amount is expected to be achieved as the online platform for donations will remain open for an additional 48 hours and donations can also be made to the account at First Caribbean International Bank until the weekend.
Corporate, faith-based and regional organizations continued to pledge well into Sunday night. Up to 10 pm Prime Minister of Antigua, Gaston Browne announced the OECS would be donating $10,000 USD to the cause and a collective of local church groups made a pledge for $25,000 BDS.
Government is expected to match the amount pledged.
