Padarath reiterates call for firing of Sport Minister
Princes Town MP Barry Padarath has criticized Permanent Secretary Natasha Barrow for her “poor excuses” as it relates to the almost $92,000 spent on a trip to Tobago, to facilitate 12 employees from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs including Minister Darryl Smith.
Padarath issued a statement on Tuesday, where he called on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to fire Minister Smith as the public continues to lose confidence in the Sport Minister.
He said the excuse that the decision to construct a temporary roof at the Dwight Yorke Stadium as one of the immediate benefits of the expenditure was “frivolous”.
He added that the PS also sought to give the impression that the National Youth Policy and the CARICOM Youth Organization registration were advanced by the visit, however, when one looks at the staff that was taken on the trip, none of them held technical or policy positions in the Ministry with respect to youth issues.
The Princes Town MP stated that the PS and the Minister appeared to place their personal interest ahead of the public interest and added the excuses given further compounded that a wrong was committed.
