Parliament to sit on Friday to consider Stephen Williams as Top Cop

The House of Representatives will sit on Friday July 20 to debate the notification of nomination of Stephen Williams for the position of Commissioner of Police.

Williams has been acting as Top Cop for the last six years.

This comes after Parliament two weeks ago rejected the notification of nomination of acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Harold Phillip for the position of Commissioner of Police.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley reiterated that the process used by the Police Service Commission was flawed and as such Government could not support Phillip’s nomination.

Friday’s special sitting will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be the only business transacted on the day.
