Penal man charged with kidnapping family

Police have charged a 25-year-old man for the kidnapping of a family in Penal last weekend. 

According to updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), 25-year-old Akim Kinsale, of Sunrees Road, Penal, was charged with six counts of kidnapping for ransom; six counts of demanding money by menace; robbery with violence; and two other offences relative to the incident.

Kinsale is due to appear before the Siparia Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 10, 2018.

Charges were laid by Sgt. Gokool, Penal Criminal Investigations Department, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on December 8, 2018.

Police sprang into action on December 1, 2018, after reports were received that an entire family of four was kidnapped from their home by masked men in Penal. 

All units of the TTPS were activated and coordinated by Police Commissioner Gary Griffith, which led to the rescue of the family the following day.
