Penal/Debe NGO cooks for flood victims
An NGO created after the flooding caused by Tropical Storm Bret is once again in action assisting those affected by the recent floods.
The Penal/Debe Foundation braved the flood waters in Debe, Woodland and Barrackpore today to distribute 500 meals that they prepared.
Khemraj Seecharan, one of the founders of the NGO, said after Bret they took a boat out to assist flood victims.
With the recent flooding that started on Divali, people turned to them for help again, he said.
This time, Seecharan said, the flood is worse than the last time.
Although the water on the main roads has begun to recede, he said many homes are still underwater but people are reluctant to leave.
The Penal/Debe Foundation is accepting volunteers and donations.
