Janelle Penny Commissiong, Chairman of the TTL, spoke on TV6 on Friday night.
Janelle Penny Commissiong has broken her silence over the firing of Trinidad Tourism Limited's Chief Executive Officer Camille Campbell.
Speaking on TV6 news on Friday night, the Chairman of the TTL board said the decision to terminate Campbell was the board’s and not hers.
She said the Human Resource committee of the Board brought the decision to them and five of the seven members voted to terminate.
Commissiong said according to the State Performance Manual, the running of the company is the responsibility of the board and not the Minister of Tourism or his Ministry.
Responding to reports that Minister Randall Mitchell instructed the board not to fire anyone, she said initially the Minister asked for a report on their recruitment drive and said they were not to offer any jobs to anyone.
She said when he saw the job ads in the media he reiterated his stance and also told them not to terminate any member of staff.
She also revealed that contrary to reports, the Board has another two years in office. She said at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 10, Corporation Sole extended their tenure by another two-year term.
Campbell was terminated after six months on the job.
Reports are that there were tensions between herself and the Chairman which led to her termination.
She has since sent a pre-action protocol letter to the Chairman.
