Pensioner beaten and robbed by fake taxi driver, passengers

Criminal elements continue to show no regard for senior citizens, as once again an elderly man was robbed and assaulted.

This time the victim was a 75-year-old man from East Dry River, Port of Spain.

He entered a vehicle he believed was a taxi around 5 pm yesterday along Duke Street, Port of Spain.

The car was being driven by a man of African descent, with a woman sitting in the front passenger seat, and another man seated in the back seat.

However, instead of taking the 75-year-old to his destination, the driver took the victim to a lonely area in Laventille, where they robbed him.

When the elderly man attempted to resist, he was dealt several blows.

The assailants proceeded to relieve him of $150 cash he had on him, along with a cellular phone valued at $200.

The suspects then told the victim to exit the car and he complied, making his way to the old St. Joseph road where he was assisted and brought to the Besson Street Police station.
