Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party Phillip Alexander says he's stepping aside from representational politics.

Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party, Phillip Alexander, said he meant what he said about his political career coming to an end after the 2020 General Election.

In a statement posted to Facebook, Alexander reaffirmed his vow to step away from representational politics.

'Twenty-six years. Looking back it feels like a lifetime. In those 26 years, we got a lot done, and I got to meet and work with some of the best people in the world,' he said.

Alexander added: 'I said at the start of this campaign that win or lose my career in active politics comes to an end and I meant it then and mean it now. Tonight I say thank you to all who walked this journey with me and to God and the universe for giving me the opportunities to serve.

'Tomorrow is a new day for all of us, and I wish everyone all the very best now and in the future.'

The PEP did not secure any seats in the 2020 General Election.

Alexander previously announced the end of his political career in 2018.
