A private-hire taxi-driver is expected to appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Monday after he was charged with the offence of robbery with violence.
The 23-year-old suspect was held after he allegedly robbed a 25-year-old man from Enterprise – who was his passenger.
The incident took place around 5.40 pm on Thursday along Upper Acono Road, Maracas St Joseph.
The victim had just exited the vehicle when he was confronted by the driver who was armed with a cutlass.
There was a confrontation between the two as the victim attempted to resist, however, the driver managed to overpower the 25-year-old.
The victim was then relieved of a gold chain valued $1,000, two gold rings together valued $500, a pair of gold polo earrings valued $300, his Samsung S6 Edge+ cell phone valued $1,600, his pants which contained $25, and a brown and cream coloured “Louis Vuitton” belt.
The driver then fled the scene.
A report was made to the police and, acting on information received, investigators made their way to the driver's home, and allegedly found most of the stolen items.
The 23-year-old was arrested as a result, and the 25-year-old was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Complex where he was treated for cuts sustained during the fracas.
