'PH' driver shot dead, 12-yr-old injured

A 43-year-old 'PH driver was shot dead on Sunday night in Diego Martin, while a 12-year-old boy was injured. 

However, according to officials, the injuries sustained by the child were not life-threatening and he was taken to hospital for treatment. 

The deceased has been identified as Richard Francis of Cemetery Street, Diego Martin.

According to police reports, residents of the area heard several loud explosions around 9.35 pm on Sunday

Upon investigating, they found Francis lying in a pool of blood on his back on the western side of the roadway.

He appeared to have been shot to his upper chest and head.

A 12-year-old boy who was nearby at the time raised an alarm and had injuries to his right leg and back.

The police and paramedics were notified and the injured boy was rushed to the St James Medical Sciences Complex.

However, police said that thankfully the injuries were 'low-depth grazes'.

Francis, however, succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead by district medical officer Dr Clapperton.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Monday at the Forensic Science Center in St James.

Investigations are continuing.
