PH taxi driver charged with sexual assault against girl, 12

A 41-year-old PH taxi driver will appear before the Siparia Magistrates’ Virtual Court on Wednesday charged with one count of sexual penetration of a child.

The suspect was arrested by officers of the South Western Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) on Tuesday, following an investigation launched into the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl.

The victim reported to police in May 2020 that while in the backseat of a PH taxi along Gambal Street, Siparia, she was sexually assaulted by the driver.

This was later disclosed to her father who subsequently made a report to police.

WPC Rangoo, of the South Western CPU led the investigation which resulted in the arrest of the 41-year-old suspect of Happy Hill Road, Robert Hill, Siparia.

He will answer to the charge before a Siparia Magistrate on Wednesday.

The investigation was spearheaded by W/Supt (Ag) George, ASP (Ag) Sookdeo and supervised by Insp (Ag) Roberts of the CPU.

For 2020, the CPU has arrested and charged 121 persons for 328 charges involving children.
