A Chaguanas businessman was discovered dead on Friday afternoon.

He has been identified as 55-year-old Robert Soogrim of Chase Village.

Soogrim was the owner of Fit for Life Pharmacy.

According to reports, the man's son told police he found his father's body on the upper floor of the pharmacy around 1 pm.

Initial reports indicated that he died by suicide.

However, police said further checks revealed that a large sum of money was missing.

Police found no signs of forced entry.

A district medical officer visited the scene, viewed the body and made a pronouncement.

The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James, where an autopsy is expected to be carried out on Monday.

Couva North MP Ramona Ramdial extended condolences to the businessman's family in a Facebook post.

"On behalf of the Couva North constituency, I extend condolences to the family of the late Mr. Robert Soogrim, owner of Fit for Life Pharmacy in Chase Village. May his soul rest in peace."
