Phone thief taken down by quick-acting police officer

The swift actions of a St James police officer resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old man mere moments after he reportedly robbed a woman.

According to police reports, around 11:30 am on Tuesday, PC James was in a marked police vehicle proceeding along the Western Main Road in St James when he observed a commotion to the side of the roadway.

A woman was screaming that her phone had been stolen and was calling for assistance.

Without hesitation, the officer exited the car and gave chase to the suspect, who was running away.

He was able to capture him a short distance away and recover the stolen cell phone.

The suspect is said to be a 19-year-old man from Unity Lane, Diego Martin.

He is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Wednesday.
