Pinknic TT patrons party for a cause in Santa Cruz
People wore pink and partied for a cause at Pinknic TT, an event held on October 28, 2019.
The event, coordinated by Adrian Chandler, Managing Director of Strictly FX, donated proceeds to the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society to help the fight against breast cancer.
The event was inspired by a New York City music festival usually held at Governor’s Island in New York City, however the local event was adapted into a gala with a charitable twist.
Event representative Stacy Ryan said the event was designed to give the public more awareness about breast cancer and how to prevent it.
“This concept is mirrored, essentially, from that event. However, after a lot of thought, it was decided to have this event during the month of October which is Breast Cancer awareness month."
“We wanted to have an event with a purpose, hence our tag ‘party with a purpose’, it’s bringing people together for a common cause.”
“There are so many survivor stories, and we hope that through an event like this it would sensitive them and create that awareness for them to do more.”
Ryan said that it’s critical for women to get checked early for breast cancer.
“What I would say to women, particularly young women is to get tested, pay attention to your body. There are avenues for support to get tested, so don’t wait until it’s too late,” she said.
