Plans underway to address 'mosquito threat' at San Fernando Old Court
Electrical upgrades, roof replacement and asbestos abatement works are just some of the repairs slated for the San Fernando Magistrates’ Courts (Old Court) located at the corner of Knox & Harris Streets, San Fernando.
The refurbishment work is expected to create provide a safer environment for stakeholders, customers and employees and improve access to justice.
The scope of the works include: roof replacement, completion of asbestos abatement works and the award of a certificate of clearance by the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI).
The tender process began with an advertisement being issued on June 12, 2018.
The deadline for submission of tenders was since extended by the Central Tenders Board, to July 19, 2018.
Completion of the roof replacement works on the Old Court is expected within three months from the date of commencement of works.
In spite of challenges encountered, the Judiciary has assured that project managers, draughtsmen, and other technical staff are planning and indeed executing other works at the Old Court.
Electrical upgrades are being completed to prepare for the additional power load required for the new AC system. Additional scheduled works include: infrastructural upgrades, new courtrooms including a Video Conferencing facility, upgrades of the air-conditioning system & upgrades to the court recording systems and works to computerise the court.
Visitors and those who regularly access the Old Court are also assured that the 'mosquito threat' is being addressed.
