Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley can now breathe a sigh of relief after a series of tests conducted on his heart proved that he has no need for surgery.

The Prime Minister delivered the good news in a late Facebook post around 11:00 pm on Tuesday as he uploaded a photograph of himself and his cardiologist sharing a meal.

"All smiles at lunch with my cardiologist. Today I was told there is no need for surgery," he explained.

Dr Rowley expressed that he will continue to be monitored before he returns to Trinidad.

"I will remain under observation for a few more days and return home soon."

Meanwhile, the PM offered gratitude to members of the public who offered prayers and well wishes during this time.

"A heartfelt thank you to everyone who prayed and sent well wishes to me and my family. We appreciate the warmth and love you showed during this period. My family and I will forever remember your kindness. It is yet another example of the goodness of the people of Trinidad and Tobago."

On Sunday, Dr Rowley announced that he would leave Trinidad and Tobago to head to California to seek medical treatment for a coronary issue.

He said in 2016, his doctors observed soft plaque developing in one of his arteries, however, in 2017, the condition was believed to have worsened.

The Prime Minister made dietary changes and now in 2019, a year and a half later, made his return to monitor his changes.
