PM denies meeting with THA leader, offering ambassadorship
Created : 4 February 2020
The Office of the Prime Minister is seeking to correct a news report which suggested that Prime Minister Rowley had met with the former leader of the Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement (PNM)/Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Kelvin Charles.
According to the release, a television report aired on Monday night, as well as an article in the Guardian newspaper today, stated that:
“Prime Minister and political leader of the People’s National Movement (PNM) Dr Keith Rowley met with former leader of the Tobago Council of the PNM/Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Kelvin Charles yesterday.”
It was further reported that, “prior to yesterday’s meeting Charles was offered an ambassadorship” and that he declined the offer.
The Prime Minister has called the reports ‘total fabrications’ and denied that any such meeting took place between the PM and Charles. He also denied that he had any conversation of that nature with Charles and said no offer was made to him.
